Kol Dorot has partnered with The Kaplan JCC on the Palisades and JCC Rockland to bring you the following event! Please join us on zoom, Sunday, December 6, 5:00PM-6:00PM.

The Newish Jewish Encyclopedia--Online Event - From Abraham to Zabar’s and Everything in Between Usher in Chanukah with authors Stephanie Butnick, Liel Leibovitz and Mark Oppenheimer as they present their highly entertaining, and a little bit irreverent, un-put-down-able encyclopedia of all things Jewish and Jew-ish which covers culture, religion, history, habits, language, and more. We will refresh our knowledge of the Patriarchs and Matriarchs, the artistry of Barbra Streisand, the significance of the Oslo Accords, the meaning of words like balaboosta, balagan and bashert. Their book will help you understand all the major and minor holidays and remind you why you need to read Hannah Arendt, watch Seinfeld, and listen to Leonard Cohen. It’s a lot. And it’s also a really fun Chanukah gift! Stephanie Butnick is the deputy editor of Tablet and has written for The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. She lives in New York with her husband and their cat, Cat Stephens. Liel Leibovitz is a senior writer for Tablet and the author of several books, including A Broken Hallelujah, a spiritual biography of Leonard Cohen. He lives in New York with his wife and their two children. Mark Oppenheimer is the former Beliefs columnist for The New York Times and the author of The Bar Mitzvah Crasher: Road-Tripping Through Jewish America. He has a Ph.D. in American religion from Yale and lives in New Haven, Connecticut, with his wife and five children. The Kaplen JCC on the Palisades and JCC Rockland are partnering to bring you this event, and Kol Dorot is the Publicity Partner. You can purchase the book in advance on Bookshop here or on Amazon here We will email you the Zoom link prior to the event.
